Opening Ceremony and Academic Seminar of Diatom Materials Joint Laboratory Held in Shenzhen

On August 30, 2019, the opening ceremony of the diatom materials joint laboratory of south university of science and technology of china-Shenzhen Taili Energy Co., Ltd. and the diatom materials academic seminar were successfully concluded in south university of science and technology of china.



This seminar is presided over by Professor Sun Dazhi of the Department of Engineering and Materials of south university of science and technology of china, Chairman Liu Hong of Terry Energy, academician of the National Academy of Engineering of the United States, world-renowned aquatic engineer, academician Wang Zhaokai, chief scientist of Terry Energy, former first deputy director of the National Environmental Protection Administration, national expert, doctoral supervisor of the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, doctoral supervisor of Tsinghua University, and minister Cheng Zhenhua, director of Terry Energy Expert Committee.  Tang Yuan, Deputy Secretary-General of China Policy Science Research Association and former Director of Research Office of the State Council; Dr. Ma Fei, Chief Engineer of Terry Energy Co., Ltd. and President of Beijing Research Institute; Professor Yang Shaoyu, Vice President of Terry Energy Beijing Research Institute; Luo Junlong, Assistant Chairman of Terry Energy and Vice President of Beijing Research Institute; Dr. Zhang Jiangtao, General Manager of Terry Energy Zhaokai Biology and Director of Diatom Research Institute of Beijing Research Institute.  Professor Yang Xiaojing, an expert in the fields of doctoral research, silica and graphene at Beijing Normal University, Professor Wu Min, an expert in the fields of advanced inorganic/polymer nanocomposites and nanocellulose at the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Mi Zhenli, a researcher at Beijing University of Science and Technology, an expert in the fields of doctoral research, steel rolling and metal composite materials, and Professor Jiang Haitao, a researcher at Beijing University of Science and Technology, an expert in the fields of doctoral research and magnesium alloy composite materials.  More than 50 people attended the seminar, including Professor Yang Wensheng, an expert in the fields of beijing university of chemical technology doctoral research, energy conversion and energy storage materials chemistry, Professor Yu Xunmin, an expert in the fields of fine chemicals and polymer materials, Dr. Zhang Ce, a special researcher in the Fifth Academy of Astronautics of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, an expert in inorganic chemistry and electrochemistry, Professor Xu Zheng, president of south university of science and technology of china Institute of Technology, Professor Cheng Xin, head of the materials department of south university of science and technology of china Institute of Technology, Professor Tian Yanqing, deputy head of the materials department, and various expert leaders.



At the beginning of the meeting, Professor Tian Yanqing, deputy director of the Department of Materials of south university of science and technology of china, delivered a speech. Professor Tian expressed sincere welcome to the experts, professors and leaders present at the meeting. He also introduced in detail the development history, team strength and scientific research projects of south university of science and technology of china. Professor Tian said that the opening ceremony of the diatom materials joint laboratory marked a substantial step forward in the cooperation between south university of science and technology of china and Terry Energy.  School-enterprise cooperation is conducive to the construction of scientific research platforms, the integration of industrial investment in research and development applications, and the transformation and operation of market achievements in talent training applications. It is hoped that both sides of the school and enterprise will communicate and communicate in a timely manner after the meeting and actively follow up on all aspects of the early stage of cooperation so as to achieve win-win cooperation.



Former first deputy director of the State Environmental Protection Administration and national expert Minister Cheng Zhenhua expressed his gratitude to all school leaders. Minister Cheng said that Terry Energy is a national high-tech enterprise with key technology core technology and completed intellectual property rights in the diatom industry technology field. It is an innovative enterprise integrating research and development, production and sales of diatom materials, biomaterials, bioenergy, biomedicine, food safety and other fields, all of which cannot be separated from Academician Wang Zhaokai's full commitment to construction.

Diatom eco-industrial chain can not only trigger revolution in biotechnology field, but also has extremely strong strategic extension, which has extremely far-reaching significance for sustainable development of human society.  The school and enterprise take the joint laboratory as a platform, cooperate with each other in production, study and research, complement each other's advantages, and cooperate with each other in a win-win way. I believe they can create a sustainable development idea for science and technology industry, which is in line with the national innovation-driven strategy, the development direction of the national strategic emerging industry, and the national innovation technology policy.
Finally, Minister Cheng proposed four guiding principles for the better development of the Joint Laboratory:
1. People's livelihood is the biggest politics.  The core starting point and destination of diatom industry is for the common people and the people's livelihood, which is the foundation of national development.
2. Development is the top priority.  The aim is to promote the development of China's biotechnology emerging industries.
3. Innovation is the first motive force.  Insisting on Innovation to Provide Continuous Scientific Research Power for Joint Laboratory
4. Talent is the first resource. The key to the establishment of the laboratory is to gather talents from all over the world, plant buttonwood trees and attract phoenix.



Chairman Liu Hong of Terry Energy and Professor Cheng Xin of south university of science and technology of china jointly unveiled the card and took a group photo to celebrate the establishment of the South University of Science and Technology-Terry Energy Diatom Materials Joint Laboratory.



Academician Wang Zhaokai, academician of the National Academy of Engineering of the United States, a world-renowned aquatic engineer and chief scientist of Terry Energy, made an academic report on diatom, a magical unicellular phytoplankton. From the beginning of its development, academician Wang began to talk about various difficult problems encountered in the scientific research of diatoms and their solutions, and expounded the application of diatoms in different fields. Among them, diatom shells composed of silica with complicated and precise structures attracted the attention of professors and experts present.

Academician Wang said that the deep processing of diatom shells, the oil extracted from diatoms (biodiesel raw materials), protein extraction, diatom farming and the use of diatom water constitute a perfect diatom ecological industrial chain, which not only has great social benefits but also has extremely high added value.  I hope that professors and experts in south university of science and technology of china will apply diatoms to the research of the project as soon as possible. I wish the future research projects of both schools and enterprises a success and make contributions to social development.

Special Academic Report on Diatom Materials





Tang Yuan, deputy secretary-general of the China Policy Science Research Association and former director of the State Council's Research Office, said that Terry's cooperation with South University of Science and Technology is of great significance and diatom research is beneficial to social development. Both sides should speed up the pace, put the basic work into place with the help of the school platform, and put forward valuable suggestions at the meeting:
1. It is suggested that large-scale industrial experiments of diatoms should be taken as the top priority of the whole work.
2. Based in the South University of Science and Technology Laboratory, the experimental work will be fully carried out.
3. Strive for the support of Shenzhen government.
4. Extend in the process of designing the project, develop products in many aspects and open up the market.
5. To raise funds extensively, the research of scientific research projects cannot do without the support of all sectors of society.
6. Mobilize all parties to push forward the work as soon as possible.
7. Diatom is a new industry in a country.  Therefore, there are two things to be done at present. First, the China Science and Policy Research Council will form a report as soon as possible, and please review the report as soon as possible, so as to strive to take diatom industry as the original strategic emerging industry of the country and incorporate it into the 14th Five-Year Plan.  The second is to help the school and enterprise coordinate the local government.  We will arrange a special survey by the Policy Science Research Council in Shenzhen to promote government support and win-win cooperation between schools and enterprises.



Chairman Liu hong of terry energy expressed his sincere thanks to all the leaders, experts and professors present here for coming to attend the conference in spite of their busy schedule. he also made a summary of the academic seminar. Liu dong stressed that both the school and the enterprise should do solid basic and substantive work in the next few days, find out the scientific research fields suitable for diatoms, high, fine and sharp, and produce industrialized products as soon as possible to form a virtuous circle.  The diatom ecological industry chain is not only an industrial revolution, but will change the human pattern in the future. Finally, Liu Dong expressed his hope that the cooperation between school and enterprise will be smooth and win-win.




After the meeting, leaders, experts and professors visited some scientific research facilities in south university of science and technology of china. When they visited the advanced scientific research facilities such as the Analytical Testing Center and the large scientific research platform of the Frozen Electron Microscope Center, they were full of praise for the advanced scientific research facilities of the South University of Science and Technology.  Good hard conditions have also added confidence to the cooperation between schools and enterprises.




Through this academic seminar, both schools and enterprises have a better understanding of the significance of each other's cooperation and the focus of the next work.
